New Zealand Land Search and Rescue launches The Learning Hub, powered by etrainu, to empower volunteers through online training

October 9, 2023

New Zealand Land Search and Rescue has partnered with etrainu to implement The Learning Hub, a new learning platform for their community.

As a national volunteer organisation, New Zealand Land Search and Rescue provide search and rescue assistance to the lost, the missing and the injured across New Zealand. Currently, they have over 3,500 volunteers and 62 local groups that dedicate their time to Search and Rescue efforts.

With the new learning platform, New Zealand Land Search and Rescue will provide a space for volunteers, groups, and administrators to access digitised education pathways. In doing so, members will be able to complete some competencies with ease.

When it came to selecting an online training provider, engaging with etrainu over alternatives made complete sense for New Zealand Land Search and Rescue. The factors that influenced the decision were threefold: the level of support, cost-effectiveness, and harmony.

The Learning Hub

The Learning Hub will help deliver a consistent level of training for New Zealand Land Search and Rescue. Training is usually conducted at the group level, which means varying approaches to providing information. It will also deliver a more scalable learning method, freeing up future face-to-face sessions to focus on more practical, hands-on learning.

A pivotal part of the project is etrainu’s integration with Microsoft Dynamics, New Zealand Land Search and Rescue’s CRM supported by Fusion5. Users can access a member portal through the integration to see which accreditations are up-to-date and need updating/revising. It ensures a single source of truth for member data (access to the Learning Hub via the member portal is pictured below).

Initially, New Zealand Land Search and Rescue will use the etrainu platform to deliver a cohesive induction package to its members. Three courses will be offered to all volunteers and groups, focusing on a general introduction to land search and rescue, safety, and media considerations.

To continue to support its volunteers, New Zealand Land Search and Rescue will develop and provide additional courses via etrainu’s preferred authoring tool, Chameleon Creator. This will help grow the platform and provide members with critical information in the form of new and refresher training.

etrainu Senior Customer Success Manager Brittney Kopacki said, “We are excited to support New Zealand Land Search and Rescue with digitising their education. At etrainu, we build exceptional communities through education. Volunteers are part of a critically important community, and we look forward to further supporting them. This partnership and integration creates a smooth customer journey and provides a centralised source of truth for New Zealand Land Search and Rescue.”

“For New Zealand Land Search and Rescue, teaming with etrainu allows us to deliver consistent and flexible training to our volunteers and helps to reduce the training burden on our Groups. It is the start of creating a training resource open to all volunteers. It will grow to cover all topics relevant to our volunteers that can be taught or revised in an e-learning environment, ranging from volunteer induction, field skills, search planning, and Group governance. etrainu also provides an assessor app, so where there are practical components to a course, they can be assessed by a Group assessor and marked complete, automatically updating the volunteer’s records,” said Land Search and Rescue Volunteer Support Advisor Johnny Franklin.
