Backup Policy

The etrainu backup policy covers three areas:

a. Platform database backups

b. Course file backups

c. Server storage backups

Platform database backups

LMS

etrainu databases are backed up using AWS’s Relational Data Service (RDS) and MongoDB Atlas PaaS built in features.  In the event of a disaster, RDS database instances can be restored to a specific point in time within 5 minutes using AWS’s RDS service and to within 6 hours for MongoDB Atlas’s service.  Daily backups are created for each database and kept for 15 days.

Assess App

Course file backups

Course files are version controlled using a version control system and stored remotely in Atlassian’s Bitbucket service.

Server storage backups

The etrainu technology platform is largely stateless. The primary LMS servers’ storage volumes are backed up nightly however and used to restore the server in the event of a disaster. Other completely stateless application servers can be recovered via the automated build process which allows these to be rapidly rebuilt in the event of a disaster.
