For those who don't work in aged care or disability support, you might not know that every participant has a Behaviour Support Plan (BSP). It captures who the person is, what matters to them and how to support them well.

For those who do work in the sector, you'll be all too familiar with BSPs. You will also know that some plans can be complex and long, sometimes 60 pages or more.

The easy option is to hand a support worker the plan, ask them to read it, and assume they will pick up everything they need to know.

Movement Five saw an opportunity to do better.

They wanted every worker to walk away genuinely confident they understood the person and how to support them, not just that they'd turned the last page.

"My main job is to make sure we mitigate any potential risk. If you're just giving support workers the BSP and expecting them to read the whole thing and fully understand it, you're opening yourself up to lots of problems," explains Pepper Blakemore, People, Compliance and Business Development Manager from Movement Five.

THE CHALLENGE

From the start and throughout their care, Pepper always considered both the participant and the support worker, looking for ways to improve the service and reduce everyday risk.

"The BSPs are massive, pages and pages and pages. You'd normally upload that onto the care software and ask staff to read it,” says Pepper, voicing her concern that no support worker could realistically absorb that much critical information from a long document alone.

THE SOLUTION

So Movement Five asked the question: how do we make sure someone fully understands their participant's BSP before they step into the role?

The answer was to stop treating the plan as a document to be read and start treating it as something to be learned.

Using etrainu's AI Course Authoring, Movement Five now turns each participant's Behaviour Support Plan into an interactive, engaging course, so every support worker learns that person's plan properly before they step into the role.

Privacy also built in. Each organisation works in its own isolated space, so uploaded documents, course content and participant information stay private to Movement Five and never cross over to another organisation. That gives Pepper and the team the confidence to build training from the documents they already have, without adding a new compliance risk.

Instead of handing over 60 pages and hoping for the best, every support worker works through the plan properly, with the key information broken down, reinforced and checked before they start supporting that person.

The part that surprised the team most was how quickly they could build a course.

“About five minutes," says Pepper, when asked how long it takes to create a course.

AI Course Authoring made the Management Teams job easier and training more interactive for every support worker. It speeds up course creation without slowing down day-to-day operations, and lets Movement Five brand the courses to look like their own while building in the specific needs of each participant.

Courses made with AI Course Authoring also help the organisation keep that momentum going, without pulling support workers off the floor for training.

"You'd organise training, then new staff come on and you have to organise it all again, and pay everyone for their time... for every single person. And some of them might not even end up staying. The cost of doing it that way really adds up."

The cost of running training and the effort of getting everyone together add up fast. Now that time goes back into what matters most to Movement Five: the quality of care their team provides.

THE RESULT

By bringing AI Course Authoring into Movement Five, the team has been able to move training in-house, turn everyday problems into courses, and track compliance and accountability across the workforce. Alongside Disability Essentials, etrainu's ready-made library of foundational disability training, it gives Movement Five a complete stack: the core courses every support worker needs, plus the ability to build their own training for the situations only they face.

Instead of paying to send staff to external courses or re-organising sessions every time someone new starts, Movement Five now builds its own training from the documents it already has, like behaviour support plans, policies and onboarding material. A course that once meant pages of dense reading takes about five minutes to create, and it can be assigned the moment a support worker has a gap in their day.

When a real issue comes up, it becomes a course rather than a one-off conversation. After running into problems with staff transporting clients, the team built a set of transport scenarios and rolled them out to the people who needed them, turning a live risk into practical, repeatable training.

“We had issues with staff transporting clients, so we put together a transport scenario, strategies for certain situations, and rolled that [training] out.”

And because every course sits inside etrainu with a quiz at the end, Movement Five Management can see exactly who has completed their training. That shifts the responsibility onto each worker and gives the organisation clear evidence of compliance, which matters most when the goal is reducing everyday risk.

“We can then track that they're definitely doing the course… and that's why we have the quiz at the end. So then it's on them," explains Pepper around the topic of accountability and compliance.

LOOKING AHEAD

Movement Five plans to build on its success with more courses built with AI Course Authoring in the future.

“It's just the start. Now we have started using the AI Course feature, it will be our go-to with creating customised training for the staff and it gives us the confidence that our staff are trained properly for the field.  especially as in this environment we need measurable results," says Pepper, reflecting on the feature and what could be possible in the near future.
