Course overview
Support workers often handle food in group homes, day programs, and people’s homes. Doing this safely protects the people they support from illness and harm.
This training walks through the food safety basics every worker needs. Learners cover personal and respiratory hygiene, the right way to wash and sanitise hands, and how to use gloves and dressings. They look at the three types of contaminants, cross-contamination, allergies, anaphylaxis, and the temperature danger zone.
The course uses short videos, scenarios, and knowledge checks to build practical skills. Learners also practise checking food brought in from outside, documenting concerns, and knowing when to escalate.
What you'll learn
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Apply safe food handling practices in disability support settings
- Prevent cross-contamination
- Manage allergens, store food at safe temperatures
- Respond to and report food safety concerns
